Hiding underneath all that camouflage is the upcoming Mercedes EQE SUV, set to arrive late in 2022.
This alternative to the Tesla Model X will be based on the recently-revealed EQE saloon, similar to the EQS line-up.
2023 Mercedes EQE SUV design
Not that you can see a huge amount through the camouflage, but the Mercedes EQE SUV’s blobby profile is pretty clear to see — similar to the EQC and EQS in that regard.
At the front, you’ll notice slim headlights peeking out too and a huge blanked-off grille with a masked Mercedes badged hiding within.
Straked brake lights are visible at the rear too, and massive alloy wheels seemingly designed with aero efficiency in mind make an appearance on this prototype too.
2023 Mercedes EQE SUV interior and infotainment
You can expect the interior of the Mercedes EQE SUV to be more or less the same as the saloon, albeit just with more space.
That’ll mean a plethora of plus materials dotted throughout, along with luxury trinkets like customisable ambient lighting and a glass panoramic roof.
It’ll seat five, and probably with space more akin to a GLS SUV than a GLE thanks to a flat floor as a result of using batteries rather than oily mechanical bits.
You’ll get the option of Mercedes’ ‘Hyperscreen’ infotainment, which sees the whole dashboard transformed into one giant screen.
2023 Mercedes EQE SUV batteries and range
A 90kWh will feature in the Mercedes EQE SUV, just as it does in the saloon. In the smaller car, it’ll return 410 miles from a charge — but expect that to dip below 400 for the SUV as a result of its larger mass. Somewhere around 380 miles seems a safe bet.
It should support 170kW rapid charging too, adding 155 miles of charge in about 15 minutes.
2023 Mercedes EQE SUV performance
Expect the Mercedes EQE SUV to have the same launch model as the saloon. That being the EQE 350, which sees a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle, producing 292hp and 350Nm of torque.
More powerful, dual-motor AWD versions should come later down the line. Mercedes has filed trademarks for EQE 43, 53, 55 and 63 which could apply to high-performance AMG versions too.
2023 Mercedes EQE SUV price and release date
Expect the Mercedes EQE to be revealed in mid-2022, and go on sale towards the end of the year.
Pricing could start around £70,000, and rise significantly for eventual dual-motor cars.
