• Aiways signs strategic cooperation agreement with world leading LiDAR manufacturer, Hesai Technology
• Long-term plans for collaboration to develop hardware equipment and self-learning software
• Partnership hopes to speed up the large-scale application of automotive grade LiDAR
• Next generation assistive technology to be available on upcoming Aiways U6, available in Europe early 2022
Aiways has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the world’s leading manufacturer of LiDAR (3D lasers) Hesai Technology, to jointly develop the future of autonomous driving. The new partnership is part of Aiways’ mission to become a digitally driven automotive intelligent technology company from 2022.
This strategic cooperation will see Aiways evolve its autonomous driving technologies with the help of Hesai’s new generation of automotive grade LiDAR solutions. As a result, the ‘AI-Drve’ intelligent driving system will be available on the new Aiways U6, which will arrive in Europe early 2022.
AI-Drve is based on existing Aiways systems which have been enhanced, such as Super Cruise Control (SCC) and Lane Keeping System (LKS). In response to customer demand, Aiways will introduce a navigation system for the first time in its vehicles which will be equipped with High-speed Navigation Assistance (NGA). The intelligent driving system will also showcase Aiways’ new Narrow-road Assist Function (NRP), a system normally only available from premium brands.
Both parties have long-term plans to jointly promote the development of automotive intelligent driving systems through technological advancements that make autonomous driving more accurate, safer, and convenient. The collaboration will provide Aiways with high-performance automotive grade LiDAR solutions, including LiDAR hardware, self-learning algorithms, and calibration, accelerating the company’s next steps towards the future of partly autonomous driving.
Hesai Technology, established in 2014, is the world’s leading manufacturer of LiDAR and is committed to the development of cutting-edge 3D laser sensing technologies for robotics applications. Its LiDAR products are widely used in autonomous vehicles, advanced assisted driving, and robotics.
Li Yifan, CEO of Hesai Technology, says: “This collaboration will help lead the breakthrough of a new generation of smart cars. Our expertise paired with Aiways’ ambition is an ideal partnership to progress autonomous driving technologies.”
Xiaoying Gu, Chief Operating Officer of Aiways, says: “As the electric vehicle industry continues to grow, it is more important than ever to ensure our EVs are equipped with the latest technology. This cooperation with Hesai Technology will help us to jointly develop autonomous driving solutions, and we look forward to working with them to evolve the technology over the coming years.”
With the new Aiways U6 entering European markets in early 2022, the company aims to meet the high technical demands of modern, open-minded car buyers. The stylish SUV coupe will offer accessible zero-emissions motoring, long-range, and class-leading practicality. The Aiways U6 blends stylish exterior design with a futuristic interior that includes a smart cockpit full of technology, connectivity and playful features.
