Vermont Business Magazine Dozens of electric car drivers will converge in South Burlington this Saturday to show their cars and speak about their ownership experience as part of a ‘National Drive Electric Week’ event. The event is organized by SunCommon who has hosted an annual ‘Sun CARnival’ since 2014, bringing thousands of people together to celebrate Vermont’s transition to electric transportation options.
Event attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the different types of plug-in electric vehicles (EVs) available in the state, and talk to Vermonters who’ve already made the switch to electric driving. People who bring their EVs to this event will choose to either have their cars on display and some will give test rides for people who want to experience what it’s like to drive electric.
Several local car dealers will also be there to give attendees the opportunity to get behind the wheel of one of these new cars.
“There is a growing community of people passionate about electric vehicles. This event is about getting these people together to celebrate the transition away from gas cars, while encouraging our neighbors across the state to check out electric driving for themselves” said Jake Elliott of SunCommon, the event’s organizer. There are currently over 17 different EV models and 32 drivers confirmed to attend Saturday’s event according to the event website.
This event is co-hosted with Drive Electric Vermont and the Vermont Chapter of the Sierra Club who both work state-wide to educate and advocate for programs to accelerate the transition to electric driving, while also supporting charging infrastructure development, incentives and other actions needed to transition away from fossil-fueled transportation. “Switching to electric driving is easier than ever,” said David Roberts with Drive Electric Vermont.
“EV model availability continues to grow and incentives can reduce purchase costs by up to $14,000. This will be a great event for people to get all their questions answered in one place.” Roberts and others from Drive Electric Vermont will be on site to answer questions on incentives, driving EVs in Vermont winters, charging options and more.
The event will also include electric motorcycles, electric bicycles and electric lawn car equipment on display for people to explore. Live music from Vermont soul and blues musician Dave Keller will play throughout the afternoon.
The event will be held on Hannafords Drive in the parking lot of the Old Hannafords, across the street of Lowe’s from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021. Attendance is free. You can sign up for updates at: https://driveelectricweek.org/event?eventid=2884
