PLYMOUTH, Minnesota — Drivers of electric vehicles will soon have more charging options in Plymouth, after the city council voted to build and operate new charging stalls at a handful of public parking spots.
The council approved a proposal from Carbon Solution Group last week to design, install and maintain 115 EV charging stalls. The new stalls will be located at Plymouth City Hall, Plymouth Ice Center, Plymouth Community Center, Station 73 Park and Ride, and several city park locations.
“We are very excited to lead the charge in Minnesota and become one of the first cities to provide electric vehicle charging stations to the entire community,” said Plymouth Public Works Director Michael Thompson in a news release. “This new program will offer community members the convenience of plugging in at a nominal rate while visiting city facilities.”
The city said Carbon Solution Group will pay all the capital and operational costs for the EV charging stations, with Plymouth taxpayers bearing no financial responsibility. Users of the EV spaces will cover the costs by paying a charging fee.
Carbon Solution Group will also provide three electric vehicles to the city for use by staffers at no cost.
A timeline for construction and availability of the charging stalls is still being developed.
