The electric-vehicle industry is gaining steam, with a new group of startups emerging to take on the companies that have dominated the auto and tech industries for decades. Some promise high-powered EVs that could give Tesla and Ford a run for their money; others are developing batteries that could make EVs cheaper and more efficient. All hope to prove that they can turn their ideas into reality.
But these companies have years of work ahead of them and could need multiple generations of leaders to become giants on the scale of Toyota or LG Chem.

To be eligible for this list, nominees had to be 29 or younger at the end of July (some who were chosen turned 30 before publication).
